What might happen if kindness went viral? How might the world change? How might you change? The KIND30 Movement is a simple idea.

We want as many people as possible to share a small act of kindness for any 30-day period in a row. Why 30 days? Because it’s proven that it takes 30 days to build a habit. Most importantly, the data proves that when we extend, receive or even witness a small act of kindness, it positively impacts our mental health. And who wouldn’t want to live in a world where more people are habitually KIND?

The KIND30 Movement is free, easy to deploy, and open to everyone. To get started, all you have to do is choose which category fits how you will be participating in KIND30’s 30-day kindness challenge, navigate to the documents drop down menu, and get started. KIND30 is a nonprofit organization founded by three friends from different walks of life in Atlanta. We’re not backed by any business, political organization or religious entity. We seek to positively impact mental health by promoting universal kindness through our 30-day kindness challenge that is built for everyone from preschool aged children to senior adults.

The KIND30 organizing team will encourage widespread participation each May for Mental Health Awareness Month, and will also organize an effort during October, as World Mental Health Day is celebrated each October 10. But you are welcome to join KIND30 Anytime!

Why Be Kind?

What a great question.

Here’s a few more to ponder:

  • Why be kind if no one’s watching?

  • Or if I’m too busy?

  • Or if I’m in a bad mood?

Studies show that when we commit an act of kindness, no matter how small, our own happiness increases. Plus, there’s a ripple effect that happens on the receiving end of a kindness. The person you’ve been kind to is inspired to share a kindness with others.

We all seek a path to happiness," says Dr. Waguih William Ishak, a professor of psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai. "Practicing kindness toward others is one we know works."

He says the trick we need to remember is that “acts of kindness need to be repeated. Biochemically, you can’t live on the 3-to-4-minute oxytocin boost that comes from a single act.”
